Energy & Sustainability

Today, being sustainable is an economic as well as a social concern. Green programs and sustainability’s growing influence already affect hospital facilities management processes and programs, and will continue to do so in the future. ABM Health offers a wide range of sustainable products, programs, and solutions to meet your sustainability needs. We are committed to healthcare energy management and sustainability, and work with our Comprehensive Facility Engineering (CFE) clients in several key ways to reduce energy consumption and support a “green” environment:

  • ABM SustainableFM - A turnkey service solution designed to help you reduce your facility’s carbon footprint and create energy efficient, sustainable environments. First, we help you determine your sustainability goals - which can range from taking steps towards a greener site, to obtaining LEED certification - and then we work with you to develop a customized, multi-step roadmap to meet these goals. Our sustainability experts will assist you in implementing each phase of the roadmap, based on your budget and available resources.

ABM SustainableFM programs include a set of environmental icons to promote your commitment to the environment and to make your green initiatives visible to your employees and the public. The icons are visual representations of SustainableFM deliverables and are displayed on customized placards that can be displayed in your facility.
  • Preventive Maintenance Program - Our operational programs are designed to ensure all equipment and systems are maintained to operate at maximum energy efficiency levels. From replacing filters to selecting a proper lubrication program, we ensure that your equipment operates at peak performance. To accomplish this, we manage, track and monitor all energy used by the facility and provide cumulative monthly reports. As these programs are implemented and stabilize - usually within the first 9 – 12 months - the efficiencies and associated cost savings become fully realized.
  • Energy Star - All of our CFE clients participate in the Energy Star program. This program was developed by the EPA to compare and rate participating hospitals in a ranking format, which allows for weather normalization. Hospital’s that rank in the higher percentiles may be awarded with the Energy Star label, which recognizes them as best in class in energy consumption. Our experts have worked with Energy Star for Hospitals since its inception and understand how to utilize this information to your advantage.
  • Re-Commissioning - Higher energy demand systems, such as chillers, boilers, air conditioning units and building automation systems, are subject to calibration drift over time. Under our program these systems undergo a thorough calibration during the first year of operations. This assures that systems are operating at peak efficiencies and performance.
